Retired from the RIARNG, fish out of the NAVSTANWPT, MWR rentals are the way to go, best value on the bay! Work in the computer storage industry as a senior manufacturing engineering technician. Perform volunteer work for Freegeekpvd.org which led me to the Vet Tech and finally to Capitol Region RSVP where I volunteer as a Senior Computer Technician. Enjoy fishing with friends off Castle Hill and in and around the Newport Naval Station. Got my first striper, a keeper by an inch with Greg V., next up is a cup fish for the team! I was bummed to miss out this year, but Sat was a blur. My wife and i divided and conquered for 2 lax, 1 baseball games with softball and a b-day party thrown in. left house at 8:30am and didn't return until 5pm. Time is a commodity i don't have much of with three little ones.
did you have to fight through a lot of blues at BI? is it worth going out there this week?
Way to go TJ you now helped get us get closer to the cup. and now I believe you lead the team boat divison . Great job and excellent fish will keep you posted how we do next week again congrats from Pam & I.
9/2/2012 - Block Island Report, awesome night at the Block. Action started early with 6 nice keeper Sea Bass between Dave and I. Followed up with 4 Striped Bass at 20, 25 (C & R), 30 and my cow 53.50. Thanks AIST for sharing your knowledge, experience and motivation!
1/2 dozen Scup today in Newport..., largest was 1.5 lb. Met another yakker on the water, tried to persuade him to join our team. Another West Bay angler that happens to work at the War College.
Sailed with the crew of the Blackhawk out of Niantic, CT..., got into some small blues and then into some Porgy. Some hubcaps mixed in for the lucky anglers. Then to the RISAA meeting for Greg's presentation.
Got out in the yak yesterday at sunset..., South of Quonset, got a Schoolie on my way back into the launch area. Saw the surface swirls and the rest is history...
Got no takers for the trip but that was not a big surprise because it was so last minute. Wound up going by myself but met alot of interesting people and caught alot of fish, overall a good day.
Been flukin in the Narrow River..., caught only short ones so far...
7/6/2012 - Block Island, caught my 2 biggest stripers, 26.28 and 34.27. Dave landed two as well, 21.64 being the largest. Unforgettable night as he got spooled by a fish that did not stop, line broke off in the deep and we lost his biggest of the night at the side of the boat every bit as big as my largest.
4/29/2012 - First yak striper..., it was a schoolie... Mid Bay location...
4/28/2012 - Got inked last night with Dave D., Newport NAVSTA was crawling with AIST squidders...
4/27/2012 - Upper Bay produces another keeper. Mike B. (this time) scored his first striper on a falling tide. 31", 10lb, and I'm sure the best fish he has ever had to eat!
4/18/2012 - getting blanked close to home, so packed it in for a popular South County locale, there were just 4 of us there..., fed the fever by landing 10 schoolies and sending them back for future action. Zoom flukes were popular...

Greenwich Bay was productive for Bluefish today..., Dave, Scott and I scored from 7lb to 12 lb..., October Blues are better than June Blues by 5 to 8 lbs...
Yup, I kayak fish the Cape all of the time. It's definitely a bit different on the Cape where just about all of the beaches are sandy. For the most part, we go way the hell down the Cape....towards Provincetown and Truro....a couple hour ride from the island. If you ever find yourself out that way, you can do very well launching right off of any of the beaches.
Some of the beaches we launch off the most are Herring Cove and Race Point. The key to both beaches are fishing the lobster pot lines. It's about a 0.8 mile paddle out at Herring Cove, and about half that to the lobster pot lines at the race. The lines follow the edge of a big drop-off, and the fish really hang around the edge. Other spots we've done well is right at the breakwater in front of Provincetown marina, as well as the longer breakwater connecting to Long Point and Wood End. There's also a few places to launch off the bay side in Provincetown right along Route 6A....I haven't tried it yet, but this is also suppossedly a good area for fluke. I also have some buddies who do well fishing the deep channel you can see on google images in Barnstable Harbor....I need to try that at some point. In the spring and fall, we find fish on just about anything and fish mainly topwater stuff, but now that summer has come, we're definitely doing the best on tube-n-worm. Not quite as fun, but it produces!

Yes - certainly very tough to beat kayak fishing once you start and really get into it. I started it up a handful of years ago, and now do probably 90% of my fishing from the yak. It's a bit more thrilling when you're getting towed around by a nice fish than just pulling them in from the beach! Glad to see there's a handful of kayakers in the club! |
