Will take a 17 from shore all day long..... Def snotty out there...Truely busted my ass for the winner. Fished from before sunsett thru sunrise two days in a row and nearly as long the day before. 11 bass but only 1 above the 34" fork length min.
Keep waiting for my spot to get hot. (didn't fish it this tourny though) Should be any day now.....need a few 30 lbers out of there to make us both happy.

got a 10 lber and a 16lber last night but came up 1 inch short of a qualifying fish.

Eels seem to be the ticket there but they don't seem to really hit them hard there.. We can team up and walk a eel out to top and drop it on there heads in the middle (while the other guy keeps the rod down below....) . I may hit things tonight thre for a bit. Need some sleep at work now...fishing form midnight thru the morning this morning from boat. Glass calm night...... misssed one good fish besides the ones I caught

I responded the first time to myself (sorry),; you didn't miss much. 4 squid, 3 bass 1 fluke and a lobster (my second) this weekend. has been slow but bridge kicked out a 35" (tom) and a 33" me so there are still bass there when the tide is running. Some bass under newport bridge as well. am in Striper marina tourny starting at midnight tonight so we will see how it goes. Need to improve my game or its gonna be rough going.

I didn't end up going got a little too tired, decided to go tonight (not usualy a fishing night for me). BJ took me to one of his spots when he scored that bass and he keeps his spots classified so I can't help much there, but don't think he would mind me telling you he was using native squid. I really enjoyed Ed's presentation...can attend a lifetime of meetings before you hear another guy be that specific about where to catch fish... not often a charter capt/comercial guy "retires". Most of the time they sell that info to a newbie Capt,, but Ed has enough money and is generous enough to give it away.... Most guys i know that want to get into the business have to buy out a retreing Captains GPS plotter

Well one thing we know for sure...no bait where we are..... think I might try tossing some native squid besides eels. may have gone to eels too soon, but I doin't think thats the issue as they seem to hitem quick when they are there. Think its more no fish where we are fishing... Certainly lots of other places on island to hit/try...cliff walk/island drive etc.... BJ got a 25 lber last night for team from surf... thats 30 points so will help for time being....

i think so colin...had abluefish to my feet last night, no stripers no squid...did get a striper sat night last weekend. Am thinking about Friday night... probably bass then convert to squid..kind of oposite of what we did last time based on tides (Low to high as night progresses) How about you?

Colin, I prefer live eels, but there was a LTC who fished the base alot and he did very well on hoagy/sluggo options. Tide all depends on where on base you are fishing, good news is that there are places that fish well each tide so not a problem. Squid fishing is terrible this week, but will try again tonight.

hung a 35" striper last night on base, so they are around, dropped two others.
Squid fished for a few hrs, stucnk and then hit the bass. Eels.....

Just missed our first cup points...need to be 36" min...G

Most spots on base fish okay with boots, but there are a few that are only fishable with waders. Kind of depends how you like to fish. I have to keep a few tricks up my sleeve but I can certainly share a few spots. Getting surf guys to give up spots is like getting a millionaire to give away money but I can/will certainly share a few. I fish monday weds and frid nights, Sun morn, every week thru the seaosn until OCT. mon, weds night usualy surf, friday and sunday usualy boat unless weather dictates surf. So maybe we ca get together on a monday or Weds evening. I don"t expect much for a week or two but with the warmer water temps this year everythng might be ahead of schedule...squid certainly arrived early.

Hi Colin; I'm afraid according to AIST rules, Terri has to wait the 2 weeks from her sign-up before she can enter fish in any of the tourneys. She is signed-up as of your request on 4-20 which makes her fish good on 4 May.

Hi Colin, don't think I can hang in there long enough to start fishing at midnight...its possible I might do some squidding after the meeting (depends on how good I do next two nights. Otherwise I will likely start fishing Weds night. During the Cup I usually fish Mon, Weds and Frid evenings and Sunday mornings. Kinda get in a pattern and ride it the season. It has served me well. So that will likely start Weds night. The squid on base have been across the board, hot, cold and middling so far...

Glad you both enjoyed it. You were good company, Sam is a trooper. Too bad you won't be here longer - maybe come back as an instrcctor some day! In any event should be a great summer for fishing.

See you at the meeting. Squid are just coming in now.

Colin, yes mesage didn't come thru. I will figure out tonight whether I am picking up BJ in Portsmouth or here at house. If I pick him up in portsmouth then best place for yo to meet us would be at the DD west main road across from mellivlle housing @ 4:15. If at myhouse best place would be the park and ride off of fish road (24 north over SakonnetRiver Bridge) take fish road exit make L on Fish go under 24 overpass and Vitit Mercedes is on Left - park n ride is right across from that. same time. My # is 401 662 5573.
